If it was not for a break-in to Ken Wigley's vehicle in 1992 Parksafe Systems Ltd would probably never have been thought of. Having returned from holiday Ken found his car window smashed and radio cassette stolen whilst in the airport car park. Ken was horrified, but his horror turned to disgust at the attitude of the office staff when the incident was reported. The attendant couldn't have cared less and simply pointed to a disclaimer notice at the entrance which said that 'vehicles are left at the owners' risk'.

The incident shocked Ken for two reasons. First, that having taken your money, the car park operator took no interest in the safety of your vehicle; and secondly that, in spite of the technological advances of the 20th Century there was no protection for vehicles in car parks beyond CCTV cameras (which did not respond to an incident but were only able to record the crime for reference after the crime had been committed, which really made CCTV totally pointless.)
